Can you check email on the T-Mobile MDA/SDA/Dash at wi-fi spots w/o signing up for their $30 internet plan?
Yes. Wi-Fi access is free (provided the Wi-Fi access point is free). T-Mobile hotspots are free for T-Mobile phones in some areas (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas-Ft. Worth, New York, and many more cities.)
If you want a cheap access plan (not the rediculous $30 plan) you can sign up for the $19 Blackberry Internet Access plan and the Windows Mobile Phones will work fine with it. (I had my T-Mobile Dash on the Blackberry plan for weeks before I traded it back in for my current Blackberry Pearl. For more info, I recommend http://www.howardforums.com and search the forums.
